Botanist, plant collector, author, and photographer, John was born and raised in Zimbabwe. He was appointed as Reserve Manager of Buffelskloof Nature Reserve in 1988 and since 2017 he has managed the Buffelskloof Research Centre and is Curator of the Buffelskloof Herbarium. He has authored or co-authored several books on the flora of southern Africa and published numerous scientific papers.

After 22 years as a string teacher in the UK, Barbara became a volunteer in South Africa firstly in Gauteng and subsequently in Limpopo. At the end of her stint at Edeni Reserve near Hoedspruit, she was put in touch with John Burrows to help with the digitizing of the Buffelskloof Herbarium. A few years later, while volunteering at the Lydenburg Herbarium, the Trustees of Buffelskloof Nature Reserve offered her employment as Manager of the Buffelskloof Herbarium – a post she has held since 2012.



Sandie is a free-lance botanical illustrator, working in both pen & ink and coloured pencils. An experienced field-botanist, with numerous publications under her belt, Sandie has also turned her hand to desk-top publishing and web design.
